About Law Weapons & Supply
A family firearms business — dealer, gunsmith, and manufacturer at 912 Industrial Dr, Aurora, IL. Owned by Robert Bevis, lead plaintiff in Bevis v. City of Naperville.
Our Story
Robert Bevis was eleven years old when he started working at his father's gun shop and range in Miami, Florida. He swept floors, stapled targets, and cleaned every rental firearm in the building. His pay was something most kids could only dream of: at the end of each day, he could pick any firearm in the store and put 200 rounds through it. It was an education you can't get from a book, and Robert soaked up every bit of it.
By sixteen, Robert was working as a gunsmith — repairing firearms and replacing parts for the store's customers on a commercial basis, learning the trade the traditional way: at the bench, on real guns, with real customers counting on him.
When Robert was eighteen, his father passed away and the shop closed its doors. The business ended, but the work didn't. Robert kept repairing and building firearms for private clients, carrying forward the skills and standards his father had taught him.
A New Beginning in Illinois
In 1993, Robert and his family moved from Miami to Illinois. In 1995, he began repairing and servicing firearms for police departments, private detective agencies, and security companies. It started as a side job, but word travels fast in the law enforcement community. Officers trusted him with the firearms their lives depended on, and departments kept coming back.
For years, Law Weapons operated out of the basement of Robert's home, serving police departments and a growing number of civilian customers. By 2009, the business had outgrown the basement, and Law Weapons & Supply opened its first storefront in Oakbrook Terrace — open to the public for the first time, with a simple goal: create a friendly place where experienced shooters and first-time gun owners alike could buy firearms, ask questions, and learn.
In 2014, the business moved to a larger location in Naperville, where it served the western suburbs for eight years.
Standing Our Ground
In 2022, the Naperville City Council passed an ordinance banning the sale of many of the most popular firearms in America — the same firearms Law Weapons had been selling to law-abiding citizens and police officers for years. Much of the business the family had built was suddenly outlawed in the city it called home.
Robert chose to fight. He became the lead plaintiff in Bevis v. City of Naperville, a federal Second Amendment challenge to Naperville's ordinance and to Illinois's statewide ban. The case has become one of the central cases in the national fight over these laws.
At the same time, the family did what it has always done: kept working. Law Weapons relocated to 912 Industrial Drive in Aurora and began rebuilding from the ground up. The new facility gave the business room to grow in a new direction, including full in-house manufacturing.
A Family Business
Law Weapons is still a family business. Robert runs the shop alongside his wife, daughter, and son, together with a team of five employees. Today, Law Weapons is a licensed firearms manufacturer (FFL Type 07 / SOT Class 2) and ITAR-registered, and has served more than 80 law enforcement agencies nationwide. More than thirty years after that first job sweeping floors, the standard is the same: do the work right, and treat every customer like they matter.
